Hello, my name is William Demet. I am
running as a write-in
candidate for the Whitefish Bay Board of Trustees. I am running because
I believe in public service. I am the local candidate and I understand
the problems of our community because I grew up here. I was educated
in Whitefish Bay public schools from kindergarten through high school.
I currently attend Marquette University where I am a political science
major.
Our village is first and foremost, a place for families. Our
number one goal in the long term must be to attract young families to
our village. In the short term, there are a number of issues that need
our attention. At the top of the list is flooding. All of us know
someone who had catastrophic flooding in their home this past summer.
We need to make gradual infrastructure improvements to ensure we are
ready for future floods. For example, in the past the Village has
mistakenly built streets without storm sewers, not providing a
sufficient outlet for heavy rains. We need to make sure that public
improvements are done with a plan for the future. Village residents pay
several million dollars per year in taxes imposed by the Milwaukee
Metropolitan Sewerage District. We need to hold MMSD accountable for
resolving our problems.
I also believe a big part of the solution is to make our village
more economically self-sufficient by making Whitefish Bay a place where
local businesses can thrive. With likely budget cuts in Madison, we
can not expect help from the state. If we can expand the tax base by
improving the local business community on Silver Spring, we will
be able to gradually improve our infrastructure without further
burdening homeowners. Recognizing the threat of over-development, I will
work to ensure that we especially encourage locally owned and
independent businesses as well as other quality developments. This will ensure that the character of our village is
preserved. These improvements will
want to buy homes in our village. Our village has always been a beacon
for young families as an oasis of calm, safety, and quality education.
We must continue this tradition of excellence and I will
make preserving the safe, idyllic family life of our village my number
one long term goal as a member of the Village Board of Trustees.
Let me be the voice of a new generation, and your voice on the
Village Board. Write my name in on April 5th and together, we can make
our village stronger.
I need your help to get my message out so that enough people will remember to write my name in on April 5th. See
my page for more information on my candidacy and how to vote absentee
(for your
children away at college). The website also contains contact
information. Please let me know about any issues that are of concern to
you in our village. I want to help! Also, if you are on Facebook,
please show your support by “liking” the “Will
Demet” politician page.
